FIAT

The FIAT image has long been linked to small, economical and efficient cars, but without neglecting modern and aggressive design and state-of-the-art technology. Whether in Italy or Brazil, its automobiles are synonymous with economy, versatility and modernity. The Italian carmaker was founded by a group of wealthy businessmen, among them Giovanni Agnelli, a politician from the Piedmont region, Lodovico Scarfiotti and the Count Brecherasio di Cocherano, in the city of Turin on July 11, 1899 under the name F abbrica I taliana di  theutomobili- T Orino , who would become known as FIAT, with the declared intention of competing with the French automobile industry and developing major innovations for racing cars.

However, Giovanni Agnelli, first secretary, gave other directions to the company’s plans. Interested in making a mass production line, it was able to lay the foundations of what is today one of the largest industrial complexes in the world. The first car launched by the automaker was the 3 1 / 2HP model of 679 cc, which reached 35 km / h, and produced only 300 units. The model was manufactured at the plant located in Corso Dante, where 150 employees worked. Other models came and in 1903 was launched the 12HP with 3768 cc, which had production of 132 units, being exported to Europe and the United States. That year the automaker also produced its first truck. In the following year the name FIAT came to represent not only the product, but the whole company, being abandoned the social name written in extenso. Even at this time, for the first time, from the 24-32HP model, the brand symbol was placed over the radiator grille.

In the first decade of the twentieth century, it also manufactured locomotives, and in 1910, when it launched 10 new car models, it assumed the position of the largest automaker in Italy. ZERO, the first car mass-produced by the automaker, was introduced on the market in 1912. At that time, FIAT began to become popular in Europe, largely due to the use of its cars as taxis. Up to 1915 approximately 2,000 units of this model were produced. With the beginning of World War I, it started to produce ambulances, machine guns and even submarine engines. In 1919 other new models were introduced in the market, such as the 501 (45 thousand units were made up to 1926), the 505 (larger model than the 501) and the top 515 line. By the 20’s FIAT already controlled 80 % of the Italian car market. This decade was marked by important events: the inauguration in 1920 of the Lingotto factory, a project guided by a definite intention to transform the car, from an elite product, into a good accessible to an ever wider public of consumers, thanks to the new principles of business organization, based on the use of assembly line; launch of the 509 model in 1925; launch of the first car with mixed body (metal + wood), called 503, in 1926; and the Monte Carlo Rally in 1928.

In the 1930s FIAT caused a real revolution in the European car market with extremely popular launches such as the 508 Balilla model, also known as the ‘Minimum Tariff’ due to the reduced consumption of 8 liters for every 100 km wheeled, presented at the Milan Motor Show in 1932; the 1500 model, the first car developed aerodynamically by the company, launched in 1935; and one of the biggest hits of its history, the Topolino500, launched in 1936 as a small, compact two-seater, which sold 122,000 units by 1948. In 1939 with the beginning of World War II, the company’s facilities were required by the Italian government to manufacture war weapons, from airplanes to machine guns. It was at this time that the Mirafiori factory was opened. Giovanni Agnelli died at the end of World War II in 1945, and his family was removed from FIAT’s control due to links to the Mussolini government. After the end of the conflict, FIAT resumed its production of automobiles with the production of models 1100B, 1500D and 500B. The first model launched after the war was the 1400, first seen in 1950 at the Geneva Motor Show, revolutionizing the concepts of the time. Shortly after, in 1953, the company launched its first diesel vehicle, the 1400 diesel.

The 60’s was full of news for the automaker. First, in 1966, FIAT’s control returned to the Agnelli family when Gianni, Giovanni’s grandson, took over as president. With its arrival the company saw its structure to be completely restructured. He divided the company into distinct areas, the main ones being: production of automobiles and production of trucks and tractors. Also in that same year was the launch of the FIAT 124 in the Geneva Motor Show, winning the title of car of the year in 1967, revolutionizing the concept of space. The model was produced in three versions: the familiar, the Spider (with Pininfarina design) and the Coupe. By the end of that decade, in 1968, the automaker’s exports reached 150 countries and to unify its global image a new logo was launched: four diamonds inclined 18 degrees with the acronym of the automaker written in white on blue background. The following year FIAT began a series of acquisitions with the purchase of the automaker LANCIA and part of the traditional Ferrari (company that would come to buy totally in 1988).

The 70’s was marked by innovative launches such as the FIAT 127 and the FIAT 132, in addition to the Ritmo, which was introduced in the market in 1978 in two versions, 3 and 5 doors. In 1979 FIAT achieved the highest sales of its difficult and painful trajectory on American soil, much due to the oil crisis of the time, which required economic cars. But in 1981 with the fall of the price of oil, the Americans would return to opt for the big cars. And due to the large drop in sales, FIAT chose to abandon the American market in 1984. But not only the failure was marked in the 80’s. Two of the car’s most popular cars were launched in this period: Panda and Uno. Another important fact was the purchase of the traditional Alfa Romeo in 1986. In the following years FIAT grew to become a global brand, bought the traditional brand of sports cars Maserati in 1993 and launched successful models, mainly in Europe and Brazil. Currently, PUNTO is one of the best-selling cars in Europe and, alongside Bravo (successor to Stilo) and Cinquecento (FIAT 500), one of the symbols of FIAT’s impressive recovery. On April 30, 2009, the Italian automaker took an initial 20% stake in Chrysler, which filed for bankruptcy, gaining strength for its operations in the largest consumer market on the planet: the United States.

The Car Cover Industry

The car cover has a long past. Many years ago the car cover came to be. The car cover has been protecting vehicles for about 50 years now. The car cover offers many benefits. Like keeping your vehicle protected from the weather, dust, dirt and the bumps and scratches that your car will receive over time. There are many places you can receive abuse to your vehicle. When you have your car parked in the driveway there are kids that can cause damage inadvertently just playing in the street. Then there is the bumps and scratches you get when your car is in the garage, from taking out the trash or just walking by it to get something buried in all that stuff you have in your garage. There are many styles and types of covers for all types of vehicles. There are covers for cars, trucks, SUV’s, vans, station wagons, limousines. There are covers for all your ATV’s, RV’s and Motor Homes. There are covers for all your backyard accessories, like tables, chairs, barbecues and more. There are covers for all your automotive accessories. like wheel covers, dash covers, seat covers and many more. I think you can find a cover for every need you have.

The cover industry has come a long way, the manufacturing process has been improved in many ways, and the new materials in this field are far more superior. Years ago when you bought a cover it was just a big tent that you had to tie down as best you could. Today when you purchase a cover it has been improved in many ways. They have installed elastic in the hem to help the cover to conform better in the front and rear, helping it to stay on better. There are also tie-down grommets that you can use a cable lock or bungee cord to hold the cover better in the wind and prevent theft. Many companies offer incentives to buy their covers, from free shipping to locks and storage bags. When you are looking for a cover for your cars, RV’s, ATV’s or any other cover you should shop around. On the Internet, you will find a wide variety to choose from. Always check their shipping policy and the warranties they offer on their products. Today there are many types of covers like the custom, semi-custom, bubble and more. Do some research before you buy to pick the cover that will work best for you. In the long run, the cover industry has made a cover that can help you protect your vehicles better and longer. In my opinion, you need to protect your cars and vehicles from all the abuse that the world can throw at them. And one of your best defenses is a car cover.

People tell me all the time how they want to get new covers for there seats, but are afraid they will not fit correctly. See most people that want covers for their car, whether it is for protection, keeping the resale value of there vehicle as high as possible or just to give them the vehicle that personal touch. They usually think about going to a store and buying the covers for there car. This is the first mistake people make when buying seat covers for their vehicle. when you go to a parts house or department store – you are only going to get a standard size that will only fit standard size seats correctly. These standard sizes may actually fit your seats, but will usually droop in places or have holes for different equipment that you may or may not have on your vehicle. The material they are made of will usually not hold up either.

Let’s talk about the materials that make a good or bad protective seat car cover. Seat car covers are made from many different materials, so you need to know as much about these materials as possible so you can make the right decision. There are basically three different categories of materials car covers are made of. Let’s take a looks at these and a few goods and bad points for each. Polyester and cotton blend – These materials will provide protection, but for how long and how well will they look after a year of use? These seat car covers will usually start to get picks and holes rubbed in them within a 12 month period. Leather – Leather seat covers will last for years and will wear very well. The only bad thing about leather is they are usually very expensive. Sheepskin leather – Sheepskin has some very unusual properties. Because of the density of the fleece, they are actually cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Because they are leather they will last for years also.

Let us discuss the cost involved in some of these materials. There is an exception to this. Sheepskin is every bit as durable and protective as regular leather but has a lower price. I would steer clear of the polyester and cotton blends because I hate having to replace them when they get worn out and this is definitely not a cheap way to go. Leather and sheepskin are both great, but for me, the price of regular leather is just a little high. Some people are scared of sheepskin because they think they would be very hot in the summer, but nothing could be further from the truth. Let’s look now at the cost of some of these materials. Polyester and cotton blend. These are the cheapest covers you can buy. Normally you can get a set for your front seats for under $100.00. These do have the downside though. You will be wanting to replace them within a year because of wear and tear. So, in the long run, these would actually end up being pretty costly. Regular cowhide leather will cost around $600.00 – $800.00 and up for a pair for your front seats. These will last for years and have all the properties of regular leather seats that come from the factory.

Sheepskin Leather. Most of the time people don’t think about sheepskin as leather, but it is a very soft pliable leather with the added benefit of the protective fleece on top of the leather. So, in the end, you actually get a dual layer of protection. The cost is relatively cheap anywhere from $150.00 and up. Now let’s talk about how to get them to fit correctly. First, unless you are a great seamstress you cannot get store bought auto car covers to fit most seats correctly. So this leaves yours with the question. Where do I get seat car covers that actually fit correctly? Some towns actually have specialty automotive businesses that can tailor make your seat covers for you, but this is usually very costly. In the end, the answer is at your fingertips. There are many specialty shops that make seat car covers for vehicles and do their sales over the Internet. Because of competition and less overhead they can usually offer great competitive prices that you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else. You simply send them your vehicle information and the color you want and they do the rest. Just make sure they have a warranty so in the unlikely event something is wrong with them you can send them back without any problems.

Here is how you would go about finding an online dealer. Pick out the material you would like to have your seat car covers made from and do a search for them. example – sheepskin seat car covers. There should be quite a few dealers to pick from. Make sure you pick a website that specializes mostly in seat car covers. This is important because you need them to know more about seat car covers than anything else. Now, these sites may sell other products but their main products should be seat covers. Most places have patterns for just about any vehicle you can throw at them. Many times they will already have them made up. Be careful of a site if it is fully automated where you just pick out the covers yourself with a lot of drop-down menus because this just leaves too much room for errors. There are just too many shapes and types of seats to be able to use drop-down menus and get it right. Choosing a car cover is not as simple as visiting your local auto supply store and purchasing the generic car cover to throw over your car. Most generic car covers won’t do a good job of protecting your car. Although a model-specific car cover is, of course, the best selection, there are many factors to consider when choosing the right car cover for your auto. Is your car exposed to extreme weather conditions? Is your car tucked safely away in a covered garage? Choosing the correct material and fit are an important factor when selecting the best car cover.

Some car cover manufacturers provide custom-made car covers for those who may have made additions to their prized sports car. Adding a wing or side mirrors will necessitate buying a custom cover. A tight fit is important when keeping dust, sand, and other elements off your car. There are several materials to choose from when selecting your car cover. Tyvek is a pliable plastic that offers protection from snow, rain, bird droppings, and tree sap. Tyvek is usually offered in less expensive one-size-fits-all car covers. Duravent offers protection from bird droppings and tree sap, while still letting air and moisture escape from the car. Letting the heat escape means less chance of a cracked vinyl interior. Ultralon, a favorite choice in car covers, not only protects your car from the weather but also from UV rays and heat. Another option when it comes to car covers is the use of a bra or cockpit cover. These are partial car covers that protect certain parts of the car. Abra on the front of your car will protect it from nicks and scratches and a cockpit cover will protect the interior of your car. These covers are fitted to the shape of your windows, keeping the UV rays out while offering protection against fading and cracking. Cars are very expensive, and you want to keep your high-priced purchase in good condition. Most of the damage that occurs to a vehicle happens when it is not in use. Whether it is an intense sun or rain, it can have an adverse effect on your car’s paint.

What to Look For:

There are basically three types of materials being used to make car covers. The difference between each one generally is the level of protection it provides, which is directly proportional to the price you will be asked to pay. If you are only looking for the most basic type of protection and are conscious of the cost of the product, you can purchase a car cover made from a blend of polyester and cotton. This type of material is very durable and can offer basic protection from the sun and water while giving it a soft touch to protect your vehicle’s finish. Car covers like this can cost as little as $50, perhaps more if you choose to buy one with a custom made fit for your car.

Traditional car enthusiasts prefer a car cover made of flannel materials. This is also a blend of polyester and cotton. However, it is about 50 percent heavier than the other fabric. This product is moderately priced and much more expensive than the other material. You should expect to pay a minimum of $100 for this type of car cover. You are, however, paying for the higher quality. This material is ideal for protecting fine paint finishes due to the fact that it is much more durable than the less expensive one it will last longer. However, unlike the less expensive products, this material is primarily for indoor storage. For intense sun, you will be able to use car covers created from stronger acrylic fibers. This material will be able to protect your car from the intense damaging UV rays. It is very durable, yet soft enough to still protect your car’s finish. This material is generally the most expensive when compared to others. Expect to spend up to $250 for this type of cover.
